Why Thermoplastics are Great for Weapon Holders

holsterThermoplastics like Kydex can do a lot of different things. That’s the point of the material’s formability and durability – it’s great for a wide range of uses due to the varying thicknesses it comes in. While the sign industry and others are big users, there is another industry – weapon holsters and sheaths – that swears by Kydex.

Obvious benefits of the material are that it’s weather and sweat resistant, it’s cleanable, durable, heat resistant, will not damage a weapon’s surface and never needs to be broken in. More than that, Kydex will last for years maintaining the same shape created in the factory to protect a gun, knife or other weapon.

The process is simple. Kydex sheets are heated, molded around the gun or blade, then trimmed and polished. However, while the steps are simple, it takes a hand-crafted process to ensure the weapon inserts and removes smoothly and safely.

Check out the specs on the different types of Kydex we represent. Professionals generally use Kydex 100 for holsters and sheaths.
